Next up for our Meet the Team series of blogs is our Specialist Insurance Recruitment Consultant: Oliver Barker.
Oliver focuses primarily on the Insurance sector and works across the UK with a number of high-profile clients and has accrued more than 5 years of experience recruiting within this industry.
Oliver joined the team at Get Recruited in March 2021 to assist us in growing both our client and candidate base. Read our interview with Oliver below:
Have you always worked in recruitment?
Oliver: Not always, I've mainly worked in sales and financial services-based roles in the past.
What made you decide on a career in recruitment?
Oliver: I was contacted by a recruiter who didn’t really have a clue how to do the job or ask me the right questions to get the answers he needed. I thought I could do a better job. So I did.
Did you know you were going to decide on specialising in Insurance when you first started out? How did you decide?
Oliver: Not at all this was more by chance, although as I had worked within a regulated environment, I knew what type of candidates I would need to speak with. This did give me a good foundation for when I first started out.
What advice would you give to a trainee recruiter who’s just started out in the recruitment industry?
Always listen and make lots of notes when speaking to both clients and candidates. Nobody likes to be talked at, so let them talk. Another tip would be to never assume that you automatically know what they are looking for, remember to ask them.
What’s your top interview tip for candidates?
Research research research - preparation is key!
